2016 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

Haverford, Pa. – Nicole Giannetti has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team for her cross country achievements this fall. The teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.

Giannetti was named the Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for having the highest GPA among the All-Centennial Conference performers in women's cross country. The Fords' junior was named to the all-conference team for the first time in her career this fall after placing 13th at the conference championship. A second-team selection with that finish, Giannetti has also been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll in each of her eligible seasons.

Also a first for Giannetti this fall was her All-Mideast Region recognition after placing 29th at that meet to help the Fords earned their second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championship. The Fords placed 23rd at the national meet with the help of Giannetti's 135th place finish. She is already a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection and is expected to earn those same honors later this year.

Giannetti is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Cross Country team by Penn's Ashley Montgomery, Swarthmore's Irina Bukharin, Villanova's Bella Burda, La Salle's Kaitlin Poiesz, Philadelphia University's Jessica Thies, and Eastern's Kierra Zack.
