Women's Cross Country Wins Long Race at Dickinson Invitational

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's cross country team, ranked 30th in the latest USTFCCCA Poll, won the 6,000 meter race (long race) at Dickinson on Saturday in a field that featured No. 8 Dickinson, No. 22 Elizabethtown, and Division I Bucknell. The Fords were ineligible for the overall team championship as they did not compete in the 4,000 meter race with all of their runners competing on the same course which will host the 2017 Mideast Regional.

Team scoring for the long race counted just the top three finishers on Saturday. The Fords used a balanced effort to top Centennial Conference rival Dickinson by just one point (22-23) in the 6,000 meter field. The Red Devils had the top two finishers, but Haverford put each of its three scoring runners in the top 10. Amelia Keyser-Gibson placed sixth with a time of 22:36.3. Right behind her was Nicole Giannetti with a time of 22:50.7, while Katie Sullivan placed ninth with a time of 22:56.2.

The junior and first year class comprised Haverford's next five finishers. Hannah Doll (23:49.9) and Sophie Drew (24:00.8) finished in what would normally be scoring positions with their respective 27th and 32nd place finishes. Hannah Yeakey was just two spots behind Drew with a time of 24:06.2, while the seventh finisher for Haverford was Julia Smith (54th place) in a time of 24:45.1. Molly Hawkins (24:47.6) and Alison Love (24:50.4) also cracked the top 60 runners in a field of 190 with 57th and 59th place showings.

Haverford's next grouping of finishers came across in pairings as Jolie Jaycobs (24:59.5) and Griffin Kaulbach (25:09.4) placed 65th and 69th. Next to finish for the Fords were Angie Petrichenko (25:44.2) and MaryKate Cavanaugh (25:48.9). Mckenna Krall and Mariana Ramirez then finished back-to-back with just six-tenths of second separating their marks of 25:56.1 and 25:56.7.

Zoe Arditi (26:14.9), Amalia Axinn (26:28.2), Michelle Luu (26:28.9), Sarah Wade (27:07.4), Liana Alves (27:07.7), and Amy Zamora (28:46.5) also covered the 6,000 meter course to round out Haverford's entrants.

As the calendar will soon flip to October, the Fords will next return to action on Saturday, October 14 at the Rowan Inter-Regional Race. That meet will get started at 11 a.m. in Glassboro, N.J. That competition will also mark Haverford's final meet before the Centennial Conference Championship at the end of October.
