HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's cross country team will start the season just one spot outside of the top 35 teams nationally as the Fords received 13 voting points in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country (USTFCCCA) Preseason Poll. Haverford placed 27th at the NCAA Division III Championships during the 2017 season.

The Fords are ranked fifth in the Mideast Region to start the year. Johns Hopkins was a unanimous pick as the top team in the country, while Dickinson (18th), Carnegie Mellon (24th), and Elizabethtown (34th) are all inside the top 35 nationally in the Fords' region. Haverford placed third at the Mideast Regional last year but graduated its top three runners from that team which earned an at-large bid to the national championships.

Hannah Doll, Sophie Drew, and Hannah Yeakey are all back from last year's NCAA Tournament team after that trio was just outside of being named to the All-Mideast Region squad a season ago. Those three runners, plus Mckenna Krall, all competed at the NCAA Division III Championship last fall where Haverford was 27th as team.

Haverford has placed among the top five teams in the region during 21 of the previous 25 seasons. The last time Haverford finished fifth or better at the Mideast Regional and did not make it to the NCAA Championship meet was during the 2005 campaign.

Women's cross country will run an exhibition meet this Saturday, September 1 at 6 p.m. to get its season started. The Fords will host their Alumnae Open on Saturday, September 8 before seeing the first outside competition as a full squad on Friday, September 14 during the Main Line Invitational.
