Women's Cross Country Looks Strong at Main Line Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's cross country team competed in the three-mile Main Line Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Alumni Cross Country Course, finishing fifth out of seven teams. Haverford finished ahead of conference foe Muhlenberg and reigning Metro Region champion Widener. Division I entrants Villanova, Penn, and LaSalle took the top three spots in the team scoring with Swarthmore logging fourth. 

Sophomore Savannah Shaw placed 28th overall to lead the Fords, and was also the second Division III finisher on the day. Shaw finished the course in 19:15.9, ahead of Swarthmore's Sophia Goodwin who crossed in 19:24.9. 

The next Haverford runner to toe the finish was first-year Alice Sappenfield, who crossed in 33rd with a time of 19:31. Captain Dominique Monroy was 38th (20:10.7), while Jessie Hausman (20:21.9) and Carly Priest (20:25) finished in 43rd and 44th, respectively. Krysta Nichols (20:28.5) and Anastasia Jaycobs (20:36.7) also finished within the top 50 for Haverford. 

Anna Berry (20:49.9, 51st), Poppy Chrisman (21:06.1, 53rd), Grace Chen (21:29.7, 56th), Audrey Carter (21:48.9, 60th), Sophia Furman (22:05.6, 63rd), Grace Hannigan (22:06.9, 64th), Claire Parsons (21:15.1, 65th), and Judy Xie (22:46.9, 69th) all logged top 70 finishes to round out the Haverford contingent. 

The women's cross country team will next be in action at the Paul Short Run on Saturday, September 30. The multi-race carnival, hosted by Lehigh, is slated to begin at 10:15 a.m.. as the Fords participate in one of the largest annual cross country events on the East Coast.
