Women's Cross Country Secures 24th Place at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Haverford College women's cross country team headed to the Goodman Cross Country Course on the campus of Lehigh University Saturday, to take part in the acclaimed Paul Short Run on Saturday, competing in the Collegiate 6K White Race. The Fords finished 24th out of 36 teams on a gorgeous fall afternoon.

First-year runner Alice Sappenfield paced the Fords on the day, cracking the top 100 and finishing 85th overall in a field of 364 total runners with a time of 24:42.7. The San Francisco built off her performance two weeks ago, as she finished 33rd overall and second on the team at the Main Line Invitational.

After Sappenfield, it was junior captain Dominique Monroy who crossed the finish line, finishing the 6K trek in 111th place with a time of 25:05.4. Not too far behind Monroy, was Savannah Shaw, as the sophomore placed 126th with a time of 25:16.6. 

Behind Shaw was junior Krysta Nichols who completed the race in 132nd with a time of 25:26.5. Carly Priest was the last runner to crack the top 200 for the Fords, as she finished 199th and toed the line in 26:12.3.

Two first-year runners rounded out the top seven for the Scarlet and Black, as Grace Chen checked in 205th with a time of 26:18.6, and Anna Berry finished shortly behind Chen in 211th finishing the race at 26:24.9. 

Also finishing the 6K race for the Fords were Poppy Chrisman (220th, 26:29.6), Audrey Carter (282nd, 27:29.4), Claire Parsons (316th, 28:27.2), Sophia Furman (323rd, 28:44.7), Judy Xie (338th, 29:34.0), and Grace Hannigan (352nd, 31:24.0).

The Fords finished ahead of four Centennial Conference foes, as Swarthmore (27th), Ursinus (28th), and Franklin & Marshall (29th) all placed within the top 30 schools. Muhlenberg placed just ahead of the final three competing teams, as the Mules finished in 33rd. 

Coast Guard claimed the Paul Short Run Title, with RIT finishing second, and Cortland State coming in third. 

However, it was a pair from Division II Adelphi who finished the race in first and second, as Katherine Marsh finished first (22:08.7) followed by her twin sister Isabel Marsh (22:15.5) in second.

You can catch Women's Cross Country next at the 2023 NCAA Pre-Nationals Invitational on Saturday, October 7. The competition will be hosted by Dickinson College and will take place at Big Spring High School located in Newville, Pa.
