Alice Sappenfield Earns Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College women's cross country first-year runner Alice Sappenfield has been named the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year, the conference announced in its annual postseason awards release on Thursday.

Sappenfield is the first women's cross country Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year in school history. The San Francisco, Calif. native finished first for the Fords in four of the five meets that she competed in during her first season on campus. 

In her first Centennial Conference Championship race last Saturday at McDaniel College, Sappenfield was the first rookie to cross the finish-line with an impressive time of 24:46.6.

Among the many standout performances, the first-year achieved a personal best in the 6k, where she finished with a blazing time of 23:37.5. At the Rowan Border Battle.

Junior captain Dominique Monroy was additionally named to the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Team. The team features one student-athlete from each institution as selected by their head coaches.

Sportsmanship is one of the pillars of NCAA Division III and the Centennial Conference. The Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Teams recognize student-athletes who exemplify the fundamental values of respect, fairness, civility, honesty, and responsibility both on and off the playing surface. 

The Fords now have their eyes set on the NCAA Metro Region Championship on November 11, at DREAM Park located in Logan Township N.J. The regional race will feature seven individual entrants from each team with the top squad earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
