HAVERFORD, Pa. – It's Top 10 Tuesday! Every Tuesday from now through the end of August, we will take a look back at the Top 10 moments from the 2013-14 academic year. This list was compiled as a way to highlight one of the most successful athletic campaigns in the history of Haverford Athletics, both on the playing field and in the classroom.
Although there were many memorable moments throughout the 2013-14 seasons, we only have 10 summer Tuesdays. For a full list of all the highlights from this past year, be sure to check out the complete list of varsity highlights here. The Tuesday Top 10 will be revealed in chronological order.
Gibby Graves was named the Centennial Conference Outdoor Field Performer of the Meet after capturing the conference title in both the long jump and triple jump. Graves rounded out his weekend with a second-place finish in the high jump. With his weekend at the outdoor conference championships, Graves became the just the fourth different individual at Haverford to earn Centennial Conference Field Performer of the Meet honors. Chaz Thomas was the last do it before Graves during the 2009 season.
Graves' championship leaps in both the long jump (7.16 meters) and triple jump (13.67 meters) made him the ninth individual in Centennial Conference history to win both of those events at the same meet. Masilo Grant (1996), David Rakoff (1998), and Chaz Thomas (2009) had previously accomplished this feat for the Fords. Graves' second-place finish in the high jump (2.00 meters) left him just one podium slot short of being the first individual in conference history to capture each of the three jumping event championships.
Graves gave Haverford its seventh individual champion in the long jump and sixth individual title in the triple jump. Both of those marks are the second most of any school in the conference. Haverford had not won the long jump since 2011 (Andy Bennett) and triple jump since 2009 (Thomas) before Graves won those events in 2014. Graves went on to place 15th at the NCAA Championships in the long jump.
