Squash teams have busy day back on courts

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's and women's squash teams played its first matches of the new year Saturday afternoon, hosting the club teams from the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University. The men lost to Penn, 8-1, before defeating Cornell, 6-3. The women fell to Penn, 7-2.

On the men's side, Zef Konst picked up Haverford's only win against the Quakers. He was victorious in four sets at the No. 1 position.

Konst was a double-winner on the day as he captured a point for the Fords with a 3-1 victory at the No. 1 slot against Cornell.

Haverford picked up its other wins from Andy McComas at No. 2 (3-1), Chris Tyson at No. 4 (3-2), Zeke Barnett at No. 7 (3-2), David Chang at No. 8 (3-0) and Peter Boal at No. 9 (3-1).

Tyson trailed 2-1 in his match against Dan O'Connor but rallied with 11-6 and 11-7 wins in the fourth and fifth games, respectively, to win the point for the Fords.

Barnett held a 2-1 advantage then off the challenge of Nate Rudick to capture his 3-2 victory.

For the women, Kara Percival won at No. 3. She took down Liz Grant 11-1 and 11-6 in the first two sets. Percival lost a tight third set, 11-13, before taking the clincher, 11-6. Alisa Strayer was awarded the Fords' second victory by default at No. 9.

The men's record is now 6-4 while the women sit at 1-6 on the season.

Both teams will host Vanderbilt University next Saturday, Feb. 5 at 10:30 a.m.
