Women's squash claims 6-3 victory over NYU

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Haverford College women's squash team registered its first win of the season with a 6-3 victory over New York University at Vassar College on Saturday afternoon. Later in the day, the Fords fell 9-0 to host Vassar.

Haverford (1-1), ranked 29th in the collegiate squash preseason poll, received an extraordinary effort from the players in the bottom of the line-up against NYU. Samara Flug at No. 5, Hannah Miller at No. 6, Miriam Fuchs at No. 7, Alyssa Kaden at No. 8 and Sarah Madigan at No. 9 all rolled to three-game victories. Playing at No. 4, Alisa Strayer accounted for the final win with a four-set victory over Morgan Pearce (11-7, 12-14, 11-4, 11-7).

Despite losing to the 27th-ranked Brewers (2-0), the young Fords gleaned valuable lessons to further their development as a team. Alex Love stood out with a solid effort in a four-game loss to Alex Bowditch (15-17, 11-5, 11-9, 11-4).

Haverford welcomes Connecticut College to the Gooding Integrated Athletic Center squash courts next Saturday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m.
