Season ends for Nightingale at national individual tournament

HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior Caroline Nightingale of the Haverford College women's squash team registered a solid showing on the opening day of the College Squash Association (CSA) 2013 Women's Individual Championships hosted by Trinity College but the junior saw her season come to an end.

Making the most of the invitation to play in the Holleran Cup with other top collegiate squash players in the nation, Nightingale did not disappoint as she gave Randima Ranaweera of Mount Holyoke all she could handle in the round of 64. Gleaning lessons from an 11-3 setback in game one, Nightingale suffered close losses in games two and three (11-8, 11-7).

After receiving a first-round bye in the consolation bracket, Nightingale matched up against Torey Lee of Bowdoin College. Nightingale fell 11-6 in game one but persevered to push Lee to the limit in game two. Lee managed to hang on for the 12-10 victory and then closed out the match in game three (11-4). Despite being eliminated on the opening day of action of the weekend tournament, Nightingale, Haverford's No. 1 player the last three years, gained valuable experience to carry with her into her final season in a Fords' uniform.

The Holleran Cup division of the CSA individual championships included players ranked 33rd or higher in the national rankings. Players ranked among the top 32 in the nation competed for the Ramsay Cup.
