Season Preview: Women's Squash Looking to Improve In 2014-15

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's squash team brings back seven members from last season's College Squash Association (CSA) E Division Championship team and will look to make the jump to the D Division in 2014-15.

Haverford set a program record with nine wins last season, ending the year on a five-match winning streak. The Fords closed the 2013-14 season by going a combined 43-2 in individual matches during that stretch to close the season, including a 9-0 sweep against Colgate to capture the E Division title.

Top returner junior Bethany Simmonds won eight matches last season including seven at the No. 2 ladder position. Senior Samara Flug and sophomore Isabel Agnew each had a team-high nine wins during the team's record-breaking season. Junior Alyssa Kaden was right behind them, tallying eight victories. Senior Alex Love went 7-4 overall in 2013-14 and a perfect 5-0 at the No. 3 ladder position. The Fords will look to get contributions from newcomer Isabelle Gotuaco who is expected to be in the top three of the ladder.

"The women's team has started their season on a strong note," stated head coach Niki Clement. "We have been focusing on fitness and fundamentals which has put us in a good position for our first matches. We will have a series of important matches in the fall, and once our full roster is back for the spring semester I expect us to have some strong depth within our ladder."

With heightened expectations, the preseason No. 32 women's squash team has a tough schedule in 2014-15. A couple  key matches on the Fords' slate include No. 29 Boston College (Feb. 27), No. 33 Bucknell (Feb. 7), No. 38 Northeastern (Jan. 17) and No. 40 Northwestern (Jan. 18).
