Women's Squash Sets Program Record in Saturday Sweep

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's squash team continued its torrid pace, defeating the Boston College Eagles (5-4) and Bucknell Bison (7-2) at the GIAC Squash Courts on Saturday afternoon. It's the fourth win for the Fords in their last five matches.

The team honored seniors Samara Flug, Alex Love and Avery Weisel before the matches today. Flug has 24 career victories which ranks third all-time. Her .615 winning percentage is fifth best in program history. Flug, Love and junior Bethany Simmonds are among nine players all-time to reach the 20 career win plateau.

Haverford College 5, Boston College 4

Flug, Love and Simmonds did not lose a single game in their wins at their respective ladder positions. Love recorded a shutout in game two of her match while Simmonds dropped just six points in games two and three.

After having her match tied at one game each, sophomore Isabel Agnew won two straight including a 12-10 victory in game three to record another point for Haverford. Weisel lost games one and two by a combined four points, however the senior would rally and win three straight (11-8, 11-9 and 11-4).

Caroline Whelan, Caroline Kulig, Nelsmarie and Paige Hanauer scored points for Boston College.

Haverford College 7, Bucknell Bison 2

Love was one of five Fords to win at their position in three games. The senior shutout Cleo Greenwood in game two and lost just five points in game three. Simmonds was pushed in game two (13-11), but gave up seven total points in games one and three. Freshman Grace Fioramonti-Gorchow had just seven points scored on her in the final two games of her sweep at the No. 8 position. Flug lost game one (11-6), but recorded three straight victories.

Weisel was awarded a default victory. Anna Kelly and Brittany Swanson picked up the Bucknell points in the match.

Haverford has three players with at least 10 wins and another one with nine on the season. Simmonds collected her 20th career win which pushes her career winning percentage to .588, seventh all-time. The junior has 12 wins this season which is two shy of the all-time single season record. Love is right behind her with 11 victories this year while Agnew has 10.

The Fords are now 10-5 on the season. With the victory over Bucknell, the Fords have set a new program record for wins in a season. Haverford will now wait to find out its rank in the Dunlop Women's College Squash Rankings. The rankings will determine who the Fords face in next week's College Squash Association Team Championships.
