Women's Squash Defeated by Dickinson and Vassar

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's squash team lost two matches at the GIAC Squash Courts on Saturday afternoon. Haverford lost to the Dickinson College Red Devils, 9-0 and Vassar College Valiants, 8-1.

In the Fords' first match of the day, the Red Devils beat the home team. Dickinson's Domenica Romo clinched the match for the visitors at the No. 2 ladder position.

The Valiants won 8-1 in the Fords' second match. Senior Ava Lichauco recorded the only win for Haverford with a 3-1 triumph at the No. 7 position. After dropping the second game, 12-10, Lichauco scored a tightly contested 12-10 victory in game three before winning the match, 11-4 in game four.

Six other Fords, seniors Bethany Simmonds, Sarah Madigan, Emily Berlin, Sabina Aliev, junior Emilia Cobbs and sophomore Grace Fioramonti-Gorchow, each took a game in their match, but couldn't claim three. Berlin was trailing, 2-1, but tied her match at two with an 11-5 win game four, before falling 11-5 in game five. Fiormanti-Gorchow suffered two losses at No. 5 position by a combined four points. Her opponent, Diana Howland clinched the match for Vassar. 

Along with the men's team, Haverford will travel to Drexel on Friday. The matches are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
