SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Haverford College women's squash team lost the final match of the Pioneer Valley Invitational, 9-0 to the Mount Holyoke Lyons on Sunday afternoon.
Seniors Bethany Simmonds and Sabina Aliev dropped their matches in five games. At the No. 2 ladder spot, Simmonds scored a close 11-9 game two win and an 11-6 decision in game three, but lost the final two frames. Aliev trailed 2-0 in her match, but rallied with victories in game three (11-4) and game four (11-6). Her comeback fell just short as the senior lost 11-7 in the decisive stanza.
Junior Isabel Agnew suffered defeat in the first two games at the No. 4 position by a combined five points. The junior took down her opponent with an 11-7 conquest in the third game, but lost in game four, 11-7. Junior Atalanta Henderson nabbed a sweep in an exhibition match.
Head coach Niki Clement's squad will take on Connecticut College (1 p.m.) and Vassar (3 p.m.) at Vassar next Saturday (Jan. 23).
