Women's Squash Celebrates Senior Day with Wins over NYU, Georgetown

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's squash team celebrated Senior Day with a perfect 2-0 record. Playing its final home matches of the year, the Fords started the day with a 9-0 victory over New York University and completed the unbeaten day with a 6-3 victory over Georgetown in the afternoon.

Haverford got perfect 2-0 days from four players and had an additional two players that were each credited with two victories as both NYU and Georgetown brought just seven players to compete. Leading that charge were 2-0 days from Bethany Simmonds and Isabelle Gotuaco. Playing the top two positions on the ladder, Simmonds went unbeaten at No. 1 with a pair of three-game victories. Gotuaco followed suit as she needed just six games over the course of her two victories. Simmonds clinched the team victory in the hard-fought 6-3 match against Georgetown to close the afternoon.

Isabel Agnew (No. 4) and Grace Fioramonti-Gorchow (No. 7) were also victorious in both of their matches. Agnew also made it a clean sweep of her games as she allowed just 12 points in her match against NYU. Agnew followed that up with a victory that featured 11-9 and 12-10 final scores against Georgetown. Fioramonti-Gorchow allowed just 11 points in her match against NYU. She also went up 2-0 in her match against Georgetown. A tough 11-8 game went the way of her opponent, but she was not to be denied as she turned that score in her favor to seal her victory in four games.

Ava Lichauco and Emilia Cobbs went uncontested in official varsity action on Saturday. Holding down what would have been the Nos. 8 and 9 spots on the ladder, Lichauco and Cobbs were limited to just exhibition play after both visiting teams fielded just seven players.

Haverford also got wins from Sarah Madigan, Emily Berlin and Sabina Aliev on their respective Senior Days. Madigan came up with an 11-7, 11-6, 11-9 victory at No. 3 to start the day against NYU. Berlin conceded just 13 points in her first match at No. 5. She closed out her victory with an 11-2 third game. Aliev matched that 11-2 score in her final game. The Fords' senior allowed just 14 points during her match against NYU at No. 6.

Women's squash will now await the final team rankings and the official release of the CSA Team Championship Brackets. The team championship will contested this coming weekend at Yale. Action gets underway on Friday, February 19 and will continue through Sunday, February 21 with one match for each team during each of the three days.
