Women's Squash Splits The Day At Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – The No. 30 Haverford women's squash team took a split on Sunday at the Klein Center on the Dickinson College campus in Carlisle, besting Denison, 7-2, before falling to the No. 20 ranked Red Devils, 9-0. Haverford comes away from the weekend of play with a 2-8 record.

No. 30 Haverford 7, Denison 2

The Fords had a complete performance against Denison on Sunday, taking six 3-0 sweeps en route to the 7-2 victory. Sophia Jackson started things off in the eighth positon with a sweep of Sarah Bradley (11-6, 11-2, 11-0) before Kaitlin Reese put Haverford up 2-0 with a sweep of Elizabeth McDermott in the second position (11-5, 11-4, 11-1). Reese now sits at 6-5 on the season, contesting matches solely at the second position thus far in 2016-17.

Ellie Blue got the best of Olivia Franco (11-7, 11-3, 11-7) to pull Denison to within one at 2-1, but Haverford rattled off sweeps from Mason McNulty (11-7, 11-3, 11-6) and Isabel Agnew (11-2, 11-5, 11-2) before Anna Kullnigg prevailed in the seventh spot on the ladder, taking down Zoe Pearce (11-5, 11-9, 11-5) for a 5-1 lead, clinching the match for the Fords.

Isabelle Gotuaco was defeated by a strong challenger at the first spot on the ladder, falling to Anandita Gupta (11-6, 11-4, 11-4) before Emilia Cobbs took a win over Elizabeth Klaes (8-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-6) and Stephanie Lukez defeated Maggie Vettel (11-2, 11-4, 11-1) to wrap up the victory for the Fords.

Against Dickinson, Haverford received an outstanding performance from Reese, who instantly put her opponent, Nicole DeLuca, on the ropes. Reese took a 12-10 victory in the first game and also delivered an 11-6 win in the second game to take a 2-0 lead.  DeLuca fought back to grab the third and fourth games by identical 11-3 scores before taking the fifth and final game 11-6.

At number one singles, Gotuaco held strong with Domenica Romo, holding the top Red Devil player to an 11-9 victory in the third and final game.

The Fords will next be in action on Saturday, February 4 at the GIAC Squash Courts against Georgetown (1:30 p.m.). Haverford will wrap up the regular season schedule at home on Saturday, February 11 against Boston College (10:30 a.m.) and Bucknell (3:30 p.m.).
