Women's Squash Sweeps Past Bard, Falls to Hamilton

AMHERST, Mass. – The Haverford College women's team split on Saturday at the Pioneer Valley Invitational, dropping the early afternoon match to No. 25 Hamilton, 7-2, before eclipsing No. 34 Bard 9-0 in the late afternoon match. Haverford finishes the day at 4-7 overall with January matches now concluded.

Haverford received match wins from Isabelle Gotuaco and Kaitlin Reese at the top two spots on the ladder. Gotuaco defeated Rafiato Ouro-Aguy (8-11, 11-7, 2-11, 11-4, 11-7) and Reese got the best of Charlotte Zonis (2-11, 11-3, 12-10, 11-7), coming back from a loss in the first game.

Elsewhere, Madeline Hager took Megan Grip to the brink in an 11-9 loss in the second of three games in another solid performance for the first year.

The Fords returned for a dominating performance against Bard, taking sweeps at the first through seventh spots on the ladder before Bard was forced to default at the eighth and ninth spot.

Gotuaco and Reese reprised their wins from the first match of the day with Gotuaco taking down Francesca Keller (11-7, 11-4, 11-5) and Reese posting a win over Francesca Cornali (11-6, 11-6, 11-2).

Tia Brown and Sophia Jackson each posted shutouts in the third of three games against their opponents at the fourth and seventh spots, respectively. Sunyoung Chai, Olivia Franco and Grace Fioramonti-Gorchow all had games holding their opponents to just one point.

Haverford is now 12-0 all-time against Bard dating back to the the 1995 campaign. This was the first meeting between the two programs since 2000.

The Fords next return home on February 3 against #17 Dickinson (10:30 a.m.) and #35 Georgetown (3:30 p.m.) at the GIAC Squash Courts.
