Kaitlin Reese and Davis Chase Selected for 2019 CSA Individual Championships

2019 CSA Individual National Championships Central

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Junior Kaitlin Reese and sophomore Davis Chase will represent Haverford at the 2019 College Squash Association (CSA) individual championships in Providence, R.I. this weekend. The event is hosted by Brown University and will feature matches at the nearby Moses Brown School. Draws for the event were announced in a release on Thursday morning. The tournament begins on Friday morning and matches continue through Sunday afternoon.

The CSA Individual Championships feature four brackets in total. The Pool Trophy (men's) and Ramsay (women's) Cups feature the top 32 individuals while the Molloy (men's) and Holleran (women's) divisions feature a bevy of top players from the programs of the CSA.

Co-captain Reese is making her third straight trip to individual nationals. The junior from Charlottesville, Va. will face off with Mihiliya Kalahe Arachcige at 9 a.m. on Friday in Holleran Cup Round of 16 action. Kalahe Arachchige is the number one player from Mount Holyoke, and has compiled a 20-1 record at the top flight for the 22nd-ranked Lyons. The two met earlier this year at the Pioneer Valley Invitational, with Kalahe Arachchige taking a 3-0 victory over Reese. Reese compiled an 11-5 record at the top flight this season and is 32-23 all-time, including 17-11 at the top flight in her three seasons.

The Haverford women finished 2019 with their most victories in a single season since the 2014-15 campaign, and will take the No. 28 overall ranking into the offseason, the best year-end ranking for the women's squash team since the 2005-06 season.

Chase is making his first appearance at the individual championships. He opens up action at 1:10 p.m. on Friday against Andrew Muran of No. 9 Cornell in Molloy Cup Round of 16 action. Muran has appeared exclusively at the top flight for the Big Red this season, finishing with a 7-11 individual record as the team went 6-12. This season, Chase finished with a 13-4 record at the top flight for the No. 30 Fords. The Pomfret, Conn. product has compiled a 23-11 record thus far in his Haverford career, the fourth-best career winning percentage in program history amongst players with at least 15 wins.

All of the action this weekend can be followed live online, with video of select courts and live scoring for all matches available on the CSA Individual Championships tournament page.
