Season Review: Women's Squash Continues Swift Rise in CSA Rankings

Signature Wins: Women's Squash (9-6) opened the season at its traditional Navy Round Robin lid-lifter in Annapolis, Md (Nov. 10). The Fords posted consecutive 9-0 wins over Boston University and Johns Hopkins in the process. The Fords then grabbed a huge victory at No. 32 Vassar (Dec. 1), taking a 5-4 decision over the Brewers in Poughkeepsie in a back-and-forth match that had all the feel of a playoff meeting … Haverford also grabbed a less dramatic, but no less important victory over Vassar at home (Jan. 25), dispatching the visiting Brewers by an 8-1 tally at the GIAC Squash Courts. Haverford extended its recent run of success against Bucknell, notching a 6-3 win over the No. 30 ranked Bison in the home finale (Feb. 2), before also meeting up with the Bucknell in the CSA Team Championships opener at Trinity (Feb. 22), a 7-2 win for the Fords.

Season Notes: The Fords finished the 2018-19 season with their most victories in a single season since the 2014-15 campaign … Haverford will take the No. 28 overall ranking into the offseason, the best year-end ranking for the women's squad since the 2005-06 season … Haverford had a program-record four CSA Scholar Athletes as Sunny Chai, Sophia Jackson, Kaitlin Reese, and Stephanie Lukez all earned the honor from the College Squash Association … Reese represented Haverford at the CSA Individual Championships in Providence, R.I. for the third consecutive season … Reese will enter her senior campaign just six wins away from tying the Haverford career record for victories, as she currently sits in sixth place all-time with 32 wins .. Through her first two seasons on campus, Maddie Hager has made her mark on the Haverford career record books, with the fourth-best winning percentage among players with at least 15 career wins (19-12, .613).

Postseason Awards:
CSA Scholar Athletes: Sunny Chai, Sophia Jackson, Stephanie Lukez, Kaitlin Reese

Looking ahead: A young squad will get another chance to grow as the program reaches for even greater heights in 2019-20 after a season in which the Fords began to emerge in the national spotlight. Co-captains Reese and Chai return for their senior seasons with the steadying presence needed to help set the culture and expectations for a talented group of returners. Reese will take aim at Haverford's all-time career wins' lead, and the clear goal for Haverford will be a division title at the CSA Team Championships in February.
