HAVERFORD, Pa. - The No. 29 Haverford College women's squash team (3-3) was upended by No. 21 Wesleyan (7-4) on Friday afternoon at the GIAC Squash Courts. The Fords returned to action for the first time in 2020 after 41 days without a competitive match, hosting Wesleyan for the first time since the 2005-06 campaign.

The Cardinals, finishing a road swing that also saw the team take on Franklin & Marshall earlier in the week, looked strong with sweeps at all nine positions on the ladder.

At the number two singles position, senior co-captain Kaitlin Reese impressed against Ananya Vir, taking her opponent to extra points in a spirted first game battle before eventually falling 13-11. Senior co-captain Sunny Chai also put up a strong challenge against Josie Russ at the fourth flight, taking her opponent to the brink in an 11-9 second game, while senior Sophia Jackson and first-year Caroline Smith were both standouts at the eight and ninth flights. The pair showed prowess against Annie Roach and Emma Smith, respectively. Jackson looked poised in taking her opponent to an 11-8 second game, while Caroline Smith proved her mettle in the third, pestering her opponent in an back-and-forth 11-9 battle.

With Saturday's action at Fordham postponed due to impending winter weather in the New York City area, the Fords will next be in action at the Pioneer Valley Invitational on Saturday, January 25. Haverford takes on No. 25 William Smith (3 p.m.) and No. 41 Bard (7 p.m.) on the campus of Amherst College.
