POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The No. 28 Haverford College women's squash team (6-3) registered a split at the Vassar Round Robin on Saturday at Kenyon Hall, taking down the host No. 30 Brewers by a 7-2 final in the late afternoon match after falling to No. 25 Connecticut College by a 6-3 final in the early match.

#25 Connecticut College 6, #28 Haverford 3

Haverford had a chance to go against an opponent in which it was very evenly matched, locking horns in tough battles up and down the ladder with a talented Camels side. Key triumphs from Zahra Khan at the second flight (11-4, 11-3, 11-6) over Isabel Schumacher, and Ariana Solecki at the third flight (11-9, 11-7, 11-6) helped set the tone while Caroline Smith was also a winner at the seventh flight, making quick work of her opponent from Connecticut College, Crystal Dixon, by way of a 11-6, 11-5, 11-7 sweep.

Despite her loss at the top flight, Izzy Johnson looked poised taking 11-6 and 12-10 wins over Rachel Matamoros before Matamoros responded in a five-game thriller, evading the loss with a furious comeback (6-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-4, 11-5).

#28 Haverford 7, #30 Vassar 2

Haverford got the best of the Brewers in the late afternoon match, taking wins at the second, third, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth flights. One of the most impressive performances came from Emilia Zegers at the eighth flight, as she allowed just six total points to her opponent Darina Kulaha (11-4, 11-1, 11-1). Caroline Smith was also a quick winner over Cara Kizilbash (11-4, 11-3, 11-2). Lyvia Yan was a standout at the night flight, dispatching Liv Kane in straight games (11-6, 11-1, 11-4).

Solecki and Khan again proved to be major difference makers with hard-fought wins as they resisted challenges from Emma Adams and Anna Lee, respectively. Vassar notched its wins at the top flight, where Claire Coss slipped past Johnson and at the fourth flight, where Nicole Pihlstrom outlasted Shreya Singh

The Fords have now won five consecutive contests against Vassar, a streak that dates back to the 2018-19 season.

Women's squash has now concluded the 2021 portion of the 2021-22 slate, and will resume the regular season after the break for final exams and the winter holidays, heading to the Pioneer Valley Invitational on January 14-16. Haverford will match up with No. 13 Amherst, No. 30 Mount Holyoke, No. 23 Wesleyan, and No. 24 Connecticut College over the three day slate.
