No. 27 Women's Squash Drops Pair at Centennial Round Robin

LANCASTER, Pa. - The 27th-ranked Haverford College women's squash team (6-8) dropped a pair of matches at the Centennial Conference Round Robin on Saturday afternoon inside the Mayser Center on the Franklin & Marshall campus. Haverford fell short to the host Diplomats and the Red Devils of Dickinson by 8-1 final scores to wrap up the regular season. 

The fourth annual rotating meeting of squash programs from Centennial Conference schools serves as a prelude to the College Squash Association (CSA) postseason tournaments. 

#19 Franklin & Marshall 8, # 27 Haverford 1

In the morning matchup with Franklin & Marshall, the Fords earned their match win at the ninth flight, as Amy Saxon picked up her second career win with a sweep of Kylie Loughney, sweeping her opponent while allowing just 12 total points (11-4, 11-6, 11-2). 

Maisie Smith marked her return to the lineup for the first time in the 2022-23 season in the match, playing at the sixth flight. Catherine Fortin locked horns with Gurlin Kaur at the second flight, putting up a strong fight while Clarice Xu was also a standout at the eighth flight, taking Sara Ghorashi to the brink in an 11-9 second-game loss. 

#23 Dickinson 8, #27 Haverford 1

In the afternoon match with the Red Devils, Ariana Solecki was a standout with a first-game victory over top-flight Amna Fayyaz (10-12, 11-7, 11-2, 11-8) while Caroline Smith also took Victoria Savelius to the brink in her second game at the third flight. Xu took Elizabeth Howerton to the extra points in the eighth flight before falling in straight games (13-11, 11-6, 11-2). Dickinson only traveled with eight players, allowing the Fords to take the win at the ninth flight by default. 

Haverford now gets set for next weekend's CSA Team Championships, hosted by Penn in West Philadelphia from February 17-19. Draws and schedules for the annual team championships are slated to be announced in the upcoming week.
