PHILADELPHIA - The 28th-ranked Haverford College women's squash team (7-9) was defeated by No. 27 Bates (5-13) in the semifinals of the Epps Cup at the College Squash Association (CSA) Women's Team Championships on Saturday evening, as action resumed inside the Penn Squash Center.

The Fords were upended by the Bobcats via sweep at all nine spots on the ladder, struggling to find a consistent rhythm after a very strong showing against Mount Holyoke a night earlier to open the championship stint.

One of the closest individual games of the evening came at the second spot on the ladder, as Catherine Fortin was edged in extra points by Aasya Patel. Patel prevailed, rallying to allow just two points in her final two closeout games after Fortin notched 10 in a narrow 12-10 defeat in the opener.

Aman Hamdard put a scare into Daina Velez at the seventh flight, getting to eight and nine points in the first and second games, respectively, before the Bobcats player was able to prevail 11-8, 11-9, 11-2 to nail down the sweep. Ariana Solecki locked horns with Andy Maratgon at the top flight, taking her opponent to nine points in an 11-9 first game loss.

Haverford will now take on the top seed in the division, No. 26 St. Lawrence, in the Epps Cup third-place playoff Sunday, as the Saints were upset by No. 29 Hamilton in the other semifinal matchup. The action will shift from Penn to the Kline and Specter Squash Center at Drexel, with the match beginning at 1:30 p.m.  Haverford faced off with St. Lawrence last season at the GIAC Squash Courts, with the Saints coming away with a 9-0 victory. The two sides last met at the CSA Team Championships in 1999.
