HAVERFORD, Pa. - On Saturday afternoon at the GIAC Squash Courts, the Haverford College women's squash team (0-4, 0-1 LL), ranked No. 29 in the latest College Squash Association Rankings, encountered a formidable opponent in No. 22 St. Lawrence (4-0, 2-0 LL), resulting in a 9-0 defeat. This match marked Haverford's inaugural Liberty League contest since joining the conference as an associate member for squash earlier this summer.

Rookie Zoe Liu showed great resilience, taking Margaret Fleischner to eight points in the second game at the third flight to open the day. Ksenia Merkulova got the better of Matilda Chartener in a sweep at number six, and Xitali Zuniga-Romero secured a victory over Amy Saxon at the seventh flight.

In the ninth flight, Tita Hicks prevailed over Sarah Kotapka, while Emi Krishnamurthy similarly faced a setback at the top flight. Lily Matthews challenged Meg Pruett at the eighth flight, coming close to victory in the first game as Pruett narrowly escaped with an 11-9 decision, setting the tone for the rest of the match.

Petra DeRose claimed victory over Maya Johnson-Fraidin at the fifth flight before Madeleine Martin and Anannya Morey secured wins over Aman Hamdard and Amelia Stevens at the fourth and second spots, respectively.

Looking ahead, the Fords will return to action on December 2 for the annual Vassar Round Robin. Haverford is set to compete against No. 27 Connecticut College (1 p.m.) and Liberty League foe No. 30 Vassar (3 p.m.) in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., before breaking for the winter holidays.

The Fords will be back on the home hardwood on January 27, 2024, facing off against No. 35 Bucknell (10:30 a.m.) and No. 30 Vassar (3:30 p.m.) in a Saturday afternoon battle at the GIAC Squash Courts. These contests will be Haverford's annual Play with Pride competitions.
