No 32 Women's Squash Sweeps Past No. 33 Mount Holyoke, 9-0, to Secure Split

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The 32nd-ranked Haverford College women's squash team (1-7, 1-2 LL) split a pair of matches on Saturday at Yale's Brady Squash Center, falling to No. 27 Connecticut College, 9-0, before defeating No. 33 Mount Holyoke by a 9-0 score in Liberty League action.

No. 27 Connecticut College 9, No. 32 Haverford 0

In the match against No. 27 Connecticut College, the Fords faced challenges, with the Camels securing sweeps in eight of the nine flights. A notable performance came from Ariana Solecki, making her season debut at the top flight. She displayed her acumen in a commendable effort, fending off a sweep to win the fourth game with an 11-7 decision over Rachel Matamoros.

Other standout performances during the matinee included Maya Johnson-Fraidin at the sixth flight, pushing Gwyneth Perez-Perez to nine points in the second of three games. Catherine Fortin and Emi Krishnamurthy also showcased strong performances, reaching seven points each in their respective games at the second and third flights.

No. 32 Haverford 9, No. 33 Mount Holyoke 0 

In the second match against newly-minted conference foe No. 33 Mount Holyoke, Haverford dominated with a resounding 9-0 victory. Solecki and Fortin secured their first wins of the season at the top two flights. Solecki triumphed over Sachary Rodriguez (11-6, 11-1, 11-3), while Fortin overcame Ku Paw in four games (11-8, 8-11, 11-3, 11-5).

Krishnamurthy secured a straight-game victory over Tina Mei at the third flight (11-9, 11-6, 11-6), and Zoe Liu achieved her first career win by defeating Kayla Core at the fourth (11-4, 11-2, 11-5). Amelia Stevens dominated at the fifth flight, allowing just four total points in a commanding performance over Baya Jaiswal (11-2, 11-2, 11-0). Johnson-Fraidin also impressed, allowing just eight points to Lara Gao at the sixth flight (11-3, 11-3, 11-2).

Matilda Chartener picked up her first career win at the seventh flight, allowing just five points to Amelia Arthur (11-1, 11-2, 11-2). Amy Saxon took down Lauren McCormick while allowing just five total points at the eighth flight (11-2, 11-3, 11-0). Lily Matthews allowed just six in her victory over Claire Murray. In exhibition action, Nayera Hasan eclipsed Paige Gershuny (11-6, 11-3, 11-5). 

With the first victory of the season achieved, Haverford looks ahead to their next match against No. 24 Wesleyan in Middletown, Conn. on Saturday, with first serve scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Rosenbaum Squash Center.
