Men's Outdoor T&F Improves to No. 18 in USTFCCCA Rankings

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's outdoor track and field team jumped to No. 18 in the latest US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) computer rankings this week. Last week, the Fords ranked No. 24.

Haverford participated in two events last week, the Princeton and Muhlenberg Invitationals. At the Princeton Invite on Friday, junior Charlie Marquardt won the 5,000m (14:21.63) in a 56 person field littered with Division I runners. The junior shattered his previous best mark by over 38 seconds and had the quickest time in all of Division III. Haverford alum Eric Arnold '12 (14:22.31) finished right behind Marquardt in second place.

Also at Princeton, senior Joel Christian broke his personal record with a 30:47.83 to place second in the 10,000m race. The senior's time is the second best time in Division III. Senior David Roza ran in the steeplechase for the first time in the outdoor season, finishing in second place (9:11.09) among the 24 runners in the event. Roza currently owns the second fastest steeplechase time among Division III participants in the outdoor season.

On Saturday at the Muhlenberg Invitational, senior Gibby Graves won the long jump competition while sophomore Michael Brier brought home an individual title in the 1,500m. The Fords had a fantastic 1,500m event with five runners in the top 15. Brier (4:06.24) won by just under a second over his freshman teammate Henry Woods (4:07.17). Senior Soren Rasmussen was fifth with a 4:09.19. Junior Bill Ristow had a personal best time of 4:15.37 (14th) as did freshman Tyler Fong with a 4:15.47 (15th).

The Fords are one of only two teams in the Centennial Conference in the rankings as Johns Hopkins comes in at No. 22. UW-La Crosse is the No. 1 team while UW-Eau Claire, North Central (Ill.), Mount Union and UW-Whitewater round out the top five.

Head coach Tom Donnelly's squad will now travel to the West Chester Invitational next Saturday with the meet scheduled for 10 a.m.
