Men's Outdoor T&F Finishes Second at CC Championships

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Junior Charlie Marquardt (800m, 1,500m), seniors Gibby Graves (triple jump) and David Roza (5,000m) won individual titles for the Haverford College men's outdoor track & field team during the final day of the Centennial Conference Championships at Scotty Wood Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Graves continued his outstanding conference meet by winning the triple jump event with a career-best 13.95m. He is the first person in Centennial Conference history to win the high jump, triple jump and long jump in the same championship meet.

Marquardt is just the fifth person and third Ford in conference meet history to win both the 800m and 1,500m races. Karl Paranya '97 (1995-97) and Tim Schoch '12 (2010-11) were the other Haverford runners to win both events.

Roza became one of seven runners, six of which were Fords, to win the 5,000m (15:16.18) and 3,000m steeplechase in one year. Nate Suter '95 (1994), Ian Fraser '98 (1998), J.B Haglund '02 (2002), Grant Scott '06 (2005-06), Ian Ramsey-North '08 (2008) also accomplished the feat.

In the 1,500m event, freshman Henry Woods (3:58.92), senior Soren Rasmussen (3:59.52) and sophomore Michael Brier (4:02.81) finished inside the top ten. Woods and Rasmussen set personal records in the race as did sophomore Julian Schneider (4:04.38), freshmen Tyler Fong (4:04.42), Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe (4:07.34), juniors Ryan Gooding (4:09) and Bill Ristow (4:09:58).

In the 110m hurdles finals, junior Dorvil Gabriel placed fourth (16.33), running his best time this season. Gabriel also finished fourth in the 400m hurdles (57.37), setting a personal record.  

Senior Alex Smith (12.23m) and junior Robert Parry (12.19m) each threw their best throws of the season in the shot put.

Haverford finished second (121 points) to Johns Hopkins (175) for the second straight year. Franklin and Marshall (100) was third, followed by Ursinus (94), Gettysburg (88), Dickinson (82), Swarthmore (59), Muhlenberg (51.5) and McDaniel (46.5). The Fords will now take a week off for finals before participating in the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet on May 11.
