Hopkins Tops Women's Squash 7-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Johns Hopkins Blue Jays took down the Haverford College women's squash team 7-2 during the consolation round of the College Squash Association's (CSA) Team Championships on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Harvard University.

Senior Alex Love and freshman Isabelle Gotuaco recorded points for Haverford, each winning in three games. Gotuaco defeated Elizabeth King at the No. 1 position (11-8, 11-3, 13-11) while Love beat Carley Petrone (11-6, 11-3, 11-6) for her 21st career win.

The Blue Jays won at the No. 2 and 4-9 positions to take the match. Junior Emily Berlin lost the first two games (11-8, 11-8), but rallied to win games three (11-9) and four (11-7) before dropping the fifth game (11-5). Junior Bethany Simmonds tied her match at one with an 11-4 conquest, but lost games three (11-1) and four (11-7). Freshman Grace Fioramonti-Gorchow won game two (11-9) of her match, but was defeated in four. Senior Samara Flug lost in three, but pushed Keely Herring (13-11) in game three.

With the impending Boston snowstorm, the match against Georgetown tomorrow was canceled. The 2014-15 campaign ends with Haverford setting a new program record with 10 victories. The Fords will send individuals to the CSA Individual Championships on Feb. 27-Mar. 1.
