Haverford Tops Centennial Conference in Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Fall Release

Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Final Fall Standings

HAVERFORD, Pa. – A successful fall season has placed the Haverford College Athletic Department first among its Centennial Conference peers and 17th throughout all Division III Institutions in the final fall release of the 2015-16 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup.

The Fords sent three teams to their respective NCAA Championships during the fall season and accumulated 187.5 points with those postseason finishes.This score for the fall season ranks second only in school history to the 2012-13 academic year when Haverford racked up a combined 225.5 points among its fall sports teams.

Men’s soccer was Haverford’s top point producer as the Fords were credited for a fifth place finish and 73 points. The Fords came within an overtime defeat of a Final Four trip to Kansas City. After a first round bye, the Fords topped Washington and Lee (W, 2-1) and St. Lawerence (W, 2-0) before suffering a 1-0 overtime defeat to SUNY Oneonta. Haverford won its second conference title in program history during its program-record 16-match winning streak and eventually finished the season with a program-record 18 victories for the season.

Men’s cross country garnered 64.5 points for its 12th place finish at the 2015 NCAA Championship. Making their 23rd consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championship, the Fords were led to the finish line by senior Charlie Marquardt’s 18th place finish and subsequent All-America certificate. The Fords were also Centennial Conference and Mideast Regional Champions.

Women’s cross country returned to the national stage and received 50 points in the Directors’ Cup for the team’s 24th place finish. The Fords’ appearance at the NCAA Championship was their sixth appearance in the past seven seasons. Sophomore Amelia Keyser-Gibson was the team’s top finisher in that meet with a 46th place finish. The Fords were second in the Centennial Conference and third at the Mideast Regional in 2015.
