Baseball makes it four straight with 8-7 victory over North Park

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Haverford College baseball team once again pulled out some late-inning magic, scoring four runs in the eighth inning to defeat North Park University, 8-7, Wednesday at Terry Park. Mike Galetta plated the go-ahead run with a base-hit.

Trailing 2-1 after three innings, Jeff Butera's two-run homer in the fourth gave Haverford (5-1) the lead although the Vikings tied it in the bottom half. North Park (5-1) scored a run off Dan Hochberg in the sixth to go ahead 4-3.

Bobby Bailey led off the seventh with a double and advanced to third. Gabe Stutman's sacrifice fly with one out brought home Bailey to tie the score. In the eighth the Fords poured it on to take the lead for good.

Hochberg threw 6.0 solid innings in his first start of the season. The right-hander gave up four earned runs and struck out four batters and departed with the game tied at 4-4.

Pitching on back-to-back days, Jonny Black (1-0) earned his first collegiate win tossing one-plus innings in relief. Charlie Carluccio entered with no outs in the eighth to strike out two batters despite allowing one run. Carluccio tossed a scoreless ninth to nail down his second save.

Butera, Louis DeRosa, Galetta and Jeremy Zoll all collected two hits on the day. DeRosa drove in two and scored a run and Butera had three RBI.
