Baseball takes two from Dominican

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Haverford College baseball team swept its doubleheader with Dominican (Ill.) University Tuesday at Terry Park. Haverford took the first game, 8-3, and rallied in the nightcap for a 17-11 victory.

In Game 1 Haverford (4-1) scored runs in each of the first four innings to take a commanding 8-0 lead. Louis DeRosa and Jeff Butera both went 3-for-4 and combined for three doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. Jake Kaden had two hits, drove in one run and scored a run.

Starting pitcher Jonny Williams (1-0) held Dominican (2-2) scoreless through the first four innings. The Stars scored three runs in the sixth, knocking Williams out of the game. In five-plus innings pitched Williams struck out five. Jonny Black allowed no earned runs in 2.0 innings of relief.

The Fords trailed, 11-8, going into their last at-bat in the top of the seventh of Game 2. Haverford scored nine times in the seventh to take a six-run lead. Jeremy Zoll came through with a clutch base-hit that brought home two runs.

Kaden, Charlie Carluccio and Bobby Bailey all had three hits in the game for HC. Kaden belted his first home run of the season, scored three runs and drove in four. Carluccio scored three runs while Bailey had three RBI and scored twice. Matt Liscovitz went 4-for-5 and scored two runs.

Adam Lewis started for Haverford and was charged with six runs in 3.0 innings of work. Kevin Goff surrendered one run in 1.0 inning. Mike Galetta (1-0) tossed 2.0 innings to pick up the win and Carluccio retired the side in order in the seventh.

The Fords spring trip continues as they take on North Park (Ill.) University Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in a single nine inning game.
