Baseball finishes trip with 23-11 win over Coast Guard

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Haverford College baseball team ended its spring trip with a 23-11 victory over Coast Guard (Conn.) Academy Saturday morning at Terry Park. Haverford scored five runs in both the third and fourth innings to take a commanding 11-run lead.

At the plate, seven different players had multi-hit days. Jake Kaden and Jeff Butera both recorded five hits. Kaden scored five runs and drove in two. Butera belted two home runs, drove in eight and scored three runs. Charlie Carluccio went 4-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and six runs scored. Chase Kennedy also hit a homer.

Haverford (6-2) used eight different pitchers on the day. Colin Sarafin (1-0) started and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings to earn the win. Jonny Williams followed Sarafin and also threw 2.0 innings. Five other pitchers threw 1.0 inning to close it out. Mike Bozzi struck out the side in the sixth. Adam Lewis and Dan Feller both fanned two batters in their inning of work.

The Fords took a 23-4 lead into the ninth inning, but Coast Guard (3-3) plated seven runs in its last at bat. Kevin Goff came on to record the final three outs.

When the Fords return home they will travel to Dover, Del. to take on Wesley College Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
