Baseball holds off Elms for 8-5 victory

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Haverford College baseball team scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull away from Elms (Mass.) College for an 8-5 victory Monday morning at Terry Park.

Colin Sarafin (1-0) held the Blazers to just two runs on three hits in 5.0 innings for the victory.

Louis DeRosa went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI's. Jeff Butera had a three-hit day which included two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Chase Kennedy went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and drove in two runs. Jeff Rickert had two hits, including a triple and scored a run.

Daniel Hochberg and Mike Bozzi each threw an inning in relief of Sarafin. Ben Regan entered in the eighth and recorded five outs before giving way to Charlie Carluccio with two outs in the ninth. Carluccio retired the only batter he faced for his first save of the season.

The Fords take on Dominican (Ill.) University in a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
