Baseball hangs in until end in 13-9 loss to Gwynedd-Mercy

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Despite falling behind by 12 runs the Haverford College baseball team fought back in Wednesday's 13-9 loss to Gwynedd-Mercy College. Haverford scored all nine of its runs in the final two innings.

Jake Kaden went 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBI for Haverford (6-3). Bobby Hubley made the most of his two at bats, driving in three runs. Pinch-hitter Alex Hudak, who got the Fords on the board, brought home a run with a single in the eighth.

Dan Strack went 4-for-5 with four RBI and four runs scored for Gwynedd-Mercy (5-5). Scott Carroll collected three hits and scored three runs.

The Griffins did all their damage from the third through seventh innings to build a 12-0 lead. With one run already across and the bases loaded with two outs in the third, Mike Albert's pop up into shallow center field ticked off Matt Liscovitz's glove bringing home two runs. Gwynedd-Mercy added another run in the frame to push the lead to 4-0.

With the bases loaded and one out in the fourth Haverford starter Daniel Hochberg (0-1) was lifted for Bryan Henrick. Nick Sechowicz greeted the left-hander with a single to right that plated two more runs.

A single by Strack brought home two more runs in the fifth and in the in the sixth Dave Deodato hit a leadoff homer on the first pitch he saw from Dan Feller. Two more runs came across in the sixth and a homer by Strack in the seventh capped off the scoring for the Griffins.
