Three from baseball garner all-conference

LANCASTER, Pa. – Three members of the Haverford College baseball team were named All-Centennial Conference by the league office Wednesday afternoon. Junior outfielder Jeff Butera earned first-team honors while junior pitcher Colin Sarafin and sophomore first basemen Jake Chaplin were voted second-team.

Butera led the Fords in batting (.423), slugging percentage (.731), runs scored (39), hits (55), RBI (50), doubles (14), home runs (8) and total bases (95). He finished the regular season in the top-10 of the Centennial in nine offensive categories. Butera batted .358 in conference games, hitting safely in 13 of 18 games, and drove in 22 RBI.

Sarafin finished the regular season 6-0 with a 3.31 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 35.1 innings pitched. His ERA ranked sixth-best in the Centennial while his six wins tied for second. The right-hander had a string of 14.0 innings without allowing an earned run that spanned five appearances. Sarafin won four games in five conference appearances and posted a 4.07 ERA.

Chaplin has been an on-base machine, leading the Centennial at a .593 clip and 36 walks. He has reached base safely in 34 of 35 games and has a streak of 24 straight games. Chaplin has the third-highest batting average on the team (.379) and has scored 32 runs. In conference play, he batted .392 and finished second on the team with 17 runs scored. Chaplin's defense did not go unnoticed as his .997 fielding percentage was tops on the team and amongst the best in the Centennial.
