Baseball sweeps Red Devils in twin bill

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team collected two wins over Dickinson College, 6-2 and 12-2, in a Centennial Conference doubleheader at Class of '16 Field Saturday afternoon.

Both starting pitchers threw complete games in Game 1. Jonny Williams (4-1) earned the win for Haverford (18-9, 9-3 CC) allowing two earned runs on six hits and three walks over 7.0 innings. Williams also struck out six.

Sean White (2-4) took the loss for Dickinson (6-20, 3-9 CC) surrendering six runs—five earned, on nine hits and one walk while fanning eight over 6.0 innings.

Dickinson took the early lead scoring on a sacrifice bunt from third baseman Ben Sciambi in the top of the second inning. The Fords answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Catcher Jeremy Zoll put himself in scoring position with a triple to left field. Third baseman Mike Galetta singled to send Zoll home and tie the score at 1-1.

Consecutive singles from Zoll, Galetta and designated hitter Alex Hudak gave the Fords a 3-2 lead in the fourth. Haverford tacked on two more runs in the inning on an RBI single from first baseman Jake Chaplin.

The Fords added an insurance run in the sixth when Galetta crushed a ball over the right field fence for his third homer of the season.

Galetta went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Zoll collected two hits and scored a pair of runs.

Colin Sarafin (5-0) picked up Haverford's second win of the day in the nightcap. He threw 6.0 innings, allowing just one earned run on seven hits and two walks. Adam Lewis and Chris Maurice each threw a hitless inning in relief of Sarafin while Dan Feller gave up one run in the eighth inning.

Haverford pounded out 11 hits in Game 2, five of which came in an explosive fifth inning. The Fords added six runs to their 4-1 lead in the fifth. With two outs and the bases loaded, right fielder Bobby Bailey hit a bases-clearing double to plate three runs for Haverford. Second baseman Louis DeRosa and Chaplin hit back-to-back RBI singles to add to Haverford's lead. Shortstop Charlie Carluccio hit an RBI double to plate Haverford's final run of the inning.

RBI singles from first baseman Chase Kennedy and Carluccio in the seventh inning extended Haverford's lead to its final, 12-2.

Bailey led Haverford's offense in Game 2 going 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBIs. Seven Fords had multi-hit days.

Garett Horan (1-4) took the loss for Dickinson allowing 10 runs — eight earned, on nine hits and five walks over 5.0 innings. He also collected five strikeouts.

The Fords return to action Tuesday with a conference game against Franklin & Marshall College at Class of '16 Field. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
