Henrick, hitters lead baseball to 12-7 win in home opener

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team won its home opener, 12-7, over Wesley College Tuesday at Class of '16 Field. Leading 1-0 early on, the Fords scored multiple runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to establish a 10-0 lead.

While the offense was running on all cylinders, starter Bryan Henrick (2-0) dominated the Wolverines lineup for seven innings. Henrick retired nine consecutive batters at one point and faced the minimum through four innings. A two-run homer by Bryan Reshetar in the seventh was all Henrick allowed as he struck out seven batters in the game including five looking.

The Fords scored a run in the second, but blew the game wide open in the third with a four-run frame. With the bases loaded and one out, a sure out at second base on a groundball by Mike Galetta turned into an error and plated two runs. Bobby Bailey followed with an RBI single and the fourth run came in on Alex Hudak's sacrifice fly.

Haverford scored three times in the fifth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Matt Liscovitz and run-scoring singles by Louis DeRosa and Jake Chaplin. A pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings made the score 12-2. Jeff Butera launched a two-run home run to left for the Fords' last runs of the day.

Kevin Goff tossed a scoreless eighth inning and Brett Cohen and Patrick Falkoff combined to get the last three outs.

Andrew Cooper (0-2) suffered the loss, lasting just 2.1 innings for Wesley (15-4). Four Wolverine relievers were charged with six earned runs.

Bailey went 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Charlie Carluccio and Galetta collected three hits apiece and Galetta scored three runs.

The Fords next game, originally scheduled for Wednesday at Gwynedd-Mercy College, has been moved to Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Class of '16 Field.
