Four-run seventh leads baseball to 4-1 win at Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Haverford College baseball team plated four runs in the seventh inning en route to a 4-1 victory at Rowan (N.J.) University on a chilly Friday afternoon.

Haverford's (14-2) Brett Cohen (1-1) and the Profs Curtis Arsi (3-1) exchanged zeroes through the first six innings. Arsi had a no-hitter through six but in the top of the seventh the Fords' bats came alive.

With two runners in scoring position and one out, Bobby Bailey singled up the middle to plate a pair of runs. That ended Arsi's day and Ryan Peterson was called in from the bullpen. Jeremy Zoll greeted Peterson with a double into the gap in left center which scored Bailey. Zoll stole third and came home on Matt Liscovitz's single.

In the bottom of the inning Cohen allowed the first two batters to reach base and a sacrifice bunt moved both into scoring position. Cohen's day was done after issuing a walk to Brad Woodend. Dan Hochberg came on to get Haverford out of the jam with the only run scoring on a groundout.

Hochberg tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth to earn his first career save. Cohen lasted 6.1 innings and scattered seven hits and four walks while striking out two. Arsi was charged with all four runs, but struck out 12 batters in 6.1 innings.

Zoll was the only Haverford batter with two hits. Nick Turano and Scott Weaver both went 2-for-4 on the day for Rowan (9-5).

The Fords return home Saturday to open Centennial Conference play, hosting No. 12 Johns Hopkins University in a doubleheader. First pitch for Game 1 is slated for 12:30 p.m.
