Late runs push Fords to third straight victory

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A back and forth game went the Fords' way in the top of the eighth inning as Haverford College plated the game's final two runs to defeat Widener University, 5-3, in non-conference baseball action Thursday afternoon.

Junior Kevin Goff earned the win for Haverford (3-3) after coming on in relief of starter Michael de Armas to begin the seventh. The win is the Fords' third straight while the Pride move to 5-4 with the loss.

de Armas, a freshman right-hander, allowed just a pair of Widener runs in six innings of work but gave way to Goff who surrendered a single run in the seventh. Brandon McCloskey took the loss for the Pride.

Nick Miranda scored one run and notched a pair of singles in the game, one of which provided the game-winning run in the eighth. Matt Liscovitz scored twice for the Fords with Casey Fox scoring once. Jeremy Zoll added two more hits to an already strong start to the 2012 season.

Haverford's spring break slate continues Friday with a doubleheader against St. Joseph's College of Long Island.
