Cold day for the bats in New Jersey

EWING, N.J. – An offense that has been averaging almost seven runs per game was held in check Friday afternoon as visiting Haverford College dropped a 7-1 decision to The College of New Jersey in non-conference baseball action.

The Fords (6-6) picked up their lone run of the game in the top of the eighth when Jake Chaplin's single up the middle scored Mike Tentilucci whose single into the hole at shortstop opened the inning. New Jersey (5-6) owned a 6-0 lead prior to the Fords getting onto the scoreboard.

The eighth inning was the only one in which Haverford was able to produce more than one hit as TCNJ starting pitcher Eric Lewis (2-0) spread out three other hits over the previous seven frames.

A final threat from the Fords came in the top of the ninth with Alex Hudak doubling to right field and Matt Liscovitz reaching on an error, but the game would end when Michael Ham, on in relief of Stewart, closed out the win with runners on the corners.

Jonny Williams (1-2) started and took the loss for Haverford allowing six runs on 11 hits and a walk over seven innings of work. Max Gerard took over in the bottom of the eighth and surrendered a run on two TCNJ hits.

A busy week for the Fords continues Saturday at 12:30 p.m. when Bates (Maine) College visits Kannerstein Field for a doubleheader which will close out a five-game stretch over a five day span for Haverford.
