Bergjans tabbed Centennial's pitcher of the week

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Centennial Conference on Monday afternoon named Haverford College's Tommy Bergjans the league's pitcher of the week following a commanding performance against rival Swarthmore College.

Bergjans threw eight shutout innings against the visiting Garnet on April 5 in the Fords' 5-0 win at Kannerstein Field. Swarthmore registered but one hit, a single, off Bergjans who struck out 12 without allowing a walk. Teammate Patrick Falkoff started the ninth for Bergjans and sat down the side in order giving the duo a one-hit shutout in which they faced one batter over the minimum.

Unbeaten on the season after five starts, Bergjans (5-0) has pitched at least five innings each game and held opponents scoreless three times while registering a 1.10 earned run average. In 32 and two-thirds innings on the hill, Bergjans has walked a paltry seven batters and struck out 47.

His career total of 125 Ks, in just two years, is already 10th on the program's all-time strikeout list.

Haverford (18-3 overall, 3-3 Centennial) travels to Muhlenberg College on Tuesday for a conference game then hits the road Wednesday to face Immaculata University for a non-conference outing. Muhlenberg comes to Kannerstein Field on Friday for a single game and the weekend brings the Fords a road trip to Westminster, Md., where they will square off against host McDaniel College in a conference twinbill.
