CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- The Haverford College baseball team (8-2) fell to DeSales University (3-4) on Wednesday by a final score of 12-1. The Fords had begun their season 8-1 through nine games in the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida during the week of Spring Break. Wins were led by their productive offense and a starting pitching staff that looked excellent at times. Unfortunately, they hit a bump in the road against the Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon.

Just three Haverford batters reached base by way of a base hit on Wednesday. Third baseman Spencer Sohmer started things off with a single in the second inning. The Haverford sophomore made headlines last week when he hit for the cycle against Lakeland College to help propel a 16-0 win for the Fords.

Sophomore shortstop Ben Furlong reached base in the third inning via a single to right field. The sophomore is batting .387 on the season and has a hit in Haverford's last nine games. Dating back to last season, he has a base hit in 19 of his last 23 games.

In the ninth inning, George Hatamiya gave Haverford its third hit of the day when he singled.

Junior righty John Masella pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. He gave up one hit over that span and faced six batters.

The Fords will play their home opener on Saturday in a non-conference game against St. John Fisher as part of a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Kannerstein Field.
