HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team won its fourth straight game on a chilly afternoon at Kannerstein Field on Tuesday. The Fords scored four runs in the first four innings and then held on to defeat Centennial Conference opponent Swarthmore College, 4-3. The Fords were dialed in at the plate all game, as they reached base in every inning but one.

Haverford wasted no time getting a run onto the board, taking advantage of a Swarthmore fielding error to score Ben Verducci with the bases loaded in the first inning. In the third, Sam Partee singled to drive in Spencer Sohmer. The next batter, Yannick Villanueva, singled up the middle to score Zach Taylor, giving the Fords a 3-0 lead.

The Garnet would get two of those runs back in the top half of the next inning, but Ethan Lee-Tyson scored the game's decisive run in the bottom of the fourth when he turned on a fastball to hit a solo shot down the left field line, 10 feet inside the foul pole. It was the freshman outfielder's first home run of the season.

Grant Finn earned his second win of the year, pitching 6.2 innings and giving up three earned runs. Finn struck out a season-high seven batters and lowered his season ERA to 3.30. In relief, John Masella threw two and a third scoreless innings to hold off the Garnet. Masella, a junior, has now appeared in nine games this season and has garnered a 1.27 ERA.

Head coach Dave Beccaria's team will look to continue its winning ways with a home game on Wednesday against Alvernia at 3:30 p.m.
