SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team scored 11 runs in the final three innings to dispatch host Swarthmore by a final score of 13-3 at Clothier Field on the Swarthmore campus. The win also clinches the Hood Trophy for Haverford for the 26th consecutive academic year.

The Fords received multi-hit contests from six different starters as Ethan Lee-Tyson led the way with four RBI. Tom Phillips (2-2) threw 7.2 innings on the mound, a career-long outing, striking out two and allowing just four hits on the afternoon. Haverford improves to 17-13-1 (8-6-1 CC) while Swarthmore now sits at 13-22 (6-9 CC) in defeat.

Swarthmore struck first in the contest against Phillips in the bottom of the second inning. After Max Grullon doubled to left field and Kenji Yoshii walked, Ryan Burnett doubled to center field, plating a pair for the early 2-0 lead to the hosts.

The Fords tied the score in the top of the third against Swarthmore starter Ricky Conti (0-3). Lee-Tyson roped a one-out single to left field and Matt Goss followed with a single to right. With two down, Sam Partee singled to left field to score both Lee-Tyson and Goss, equalizing the score line in the early goings.

The score remained tied at 2-2 until the seventh inning of the game as Haverford rallied for four runs in the frame. Jared Turner singled to left field and Goss towered a homer to right with one out, giving Haverford a 4-2 advantage. Spencer Sohmer was hit by a pitch and stole second, advancing to third on a throwing error.

Partee later walked and Ben Furlong delivered a sacrifice squeeze bunt to score Sohmer for a three-run cushion against reliever Jackson Ramey. The next Ford batter, Harrison Burns, singled into center field, plating Partee as Haverford went ahead 6-2.

After a perfect seventh inning for Phillips, Nick Perez and Turner reached ahead of Lee-Tyson, who charged a three-run homer to center field, his seventh of the season, as Haverford pulled ahead further at 9-2.

In the ninth inning, the offensive floodgates remained open for the visitors. Griffin Kammerer took over in relief and Furlong charged his Centennial-best eighth home run of the season to lead off the inning. With one out, Will Karp was hit by a pitch and Perez reached on a fielding error for his second straight plate appearance.

Turner singled for the third time in as many innings, picking up an RBI as Karp scored to make it 10-2 Haverford. Lee-Tyson poked a single to center that scored two and pinch hitter Yannick Villanueva delivered a sacrifice fly in the frame for a 13-2 advantage.

Turner set new career single-game highs in hits (3) and picked up his second RBI of the season.

John Masella pitched the final 1.2 innings in relief to seal the win for Phillips.

Haverford will wrap up the home-and-home series with Swarthmore on Friday at Kannerstein Field before heading to Gettysburg for a regular season finale doubleheader on Saturday with the Bullets beginning at 12:30 p.m.
