FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Haverford College baseball team took a 10-3 decision over Amherst on Thursday afternoon. The Fords were led by Owen Plambeck, who hit two home runs in the third and fourth innings, respectively.  Haverford is now 2-7 on the season while Amherst is 2-3 following the dfeat.

Haverford pushed a run across in the first inning as Will Karp walked and stole second. Ethan Lee-Tyson singled home Karp for the first run of the game.  The Fords added one more in the second on a Ben Somorjai homer and tacked on three in the third as Plambeck drove in two with a home run to left field. Sam Partee doubled ahead of a Somorjai single to knock in the third run of the inning as Haverford pulled ahead 6-0.

Spencer Sohmer tripled in Lee-Tyson for a run in the fourth and Plambeck again delivered a two-run shot to left, plating Sohmer. Somorjai added an RBI double in the frame as Haverford broke things wide open at 9-0. In the seventh, the Fords added a run on a passed ball.

The top of the order was crucial for Haverford as Karp, Lee-Tyson, Sohmer and Plambeck each had multi-RBI contests. Somorjai made his impact felt in a major way with a 3-4 day at the plate including three RBI.
