CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Haverford College baseball team (13-15, 3-5 CC) went on the road to Chestertown on the heels of a historic Tuesday night victory, and continued its winning ways with an 11-2 triumph over Washington College (11-18, 1-7 CC) at Athey Park Friday afternoon.

Haverford used a three-run seventh to build an initial lead it would not relinquish, as the Fords tacked on four more in the fourth, single runs in the sixth and eighth innings, before notching two more in the ninth. Jack Wallis had a three-hit day to pace the Fords, as he continued a torrid week. For the two games this week thus far, Wallis is hitting .667 with eight hits and six RBI in 12 at bats.

As a team, Haverford hit a scorching .488 over the two-game series sweep of the Shoremen with 41 hits, 44 runs scored, 14 extra base hits, 42 RBI, and 66 total bases.

As has been key all season, getting runners on base to begin a fresh inning  led to some early runs for the Fords against Washington College hurler Ashton Mehler. Daniel Rosman was hit by a pitch, and Harry Genth walked ahead of a walk to Jonny Flieder, loading the bases for Wallis. Wallis punched a single through the right side of the infield to plate the first two runs of the game before an out had been recorded. Zach Landry later reached on a bunt single to plate another run in the frame.

Chuck Norton singled to lead off the fourth, and Harry Genth was hit by a pitch. Flieder knocked in a pair with his RBI double, and Wallis was there to provide another RBI with his single through the left side. Kyle Beach then drilled a deep drive into left center, as the ball one-hopped over the fence for a ground rule double and suddenly Haverford was in command up 7-1.

The Fords tacked on a run on a wild pitch in the sixth, and Beach notched a sacrifice fly after a pair of walks and a wild pitch in the eighth. A wild pitch and an RBI single from Harry Genth plated two more runs in the ninth as Haverford crossed the double-digit scoring threshold for the 10th time this season.

Riley Grohowski was simply brilliant over his seven innings of work for the Fords, knotting up his pitching record at 4-4 while surrendering just six hits and two runs with three strikeouts. Ethan Goldstein and Colin Lewis each tossed a scoreless frame of relief for Haverford as the Fords were able to preserve much of the bullpen for the doubleheader this weekend.

As was the case Tuesday, Logan Yi had a solid offensive turn for Washington College, knocking an RBI double in the first as part of a three-hit day for the Shoremen. Washington College took advantage of familiarity with the home ballpark, spraying the ball around for five total doubles. Tyler Titus tossed two scoreless frames with a pair of strikeouts in a standout relief turn for the hosts.

The Fords now return to action at home, taking on McDaniel in doubleheader action at Kannerstein Field. First pitch with the Green Terror is slated for 12 p.m. as the chase for the Centennial Conference playoffs begins to heat up with just over two weeks remaining in the regular season slate.
