Baseball Nabs Academic Honors from ABCA For Eighth Consecutive Year

Full ABCA Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College baseball program has once again earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, the organization announced on Wednesday afternoon. More than 450 collegiate programs were recognized with this year's award, including 162 programs from Division III. Haverford is one of only 19 Division III programs to have earned the honor in each season that it has been awarded.

Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2022-23 academic year.

The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.

The American Baseball Coaches Association, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its nearly 13,000 members represent all 50 states and 33 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth.

Earlier this year, Haverford placed 15 members of the 2023 squad on the Centennial Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, as Zach Becker, Oliver Bergeron, Luke Bessette, Zach Crampton, Jonny Flieder, Riley Grohowski, Zach Landry, Wyatt Mattison, Mitchell Pagano, Dali Pomfret, Mike Rabayda, Pranav Rane, Daniel Rosman, Anthony Runfola, and August Williams all took home those honors from the conference office.
