HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College baseball team (15-12, 5-5 CC)  put up 14 runs in a 14-4 victory against Washington College (7-24, 2-8 CC), in a rare Sunday afternoon game at "The K". The game ended after seven innings due to the ten-run rule that was instated by the Centennial Conference before the 2024 season began.

Jack Wallis had another phenomenal day at the plate for the Fords, launching a grand slam in the first inning. Jonny Flieder went 3-3 at the plate with three runs, three RBIs, and one home run, while Kendrick Curry II scored two runs, collected two RBIs, and ripped one home run over the right field wall.

On the mound for the Fords was Wyatt Mattison, who threw four and a third innings, striking out four against just three earned runs.

After a scoreless top of the first from Mattison, the Fords opened the game wide open in the bottom of the inning. After loading up the bases, Wallis smoked a grand slam to left field, to give the Fords a quick 4-0 lead. After Kyle Beach reached on an error, Curry II blasted a home run to right field, to extend the host's lead to 6-0 after just one inning.

The Shoremen bats remained quiet in the top of the second, before Haverford added four more runs to the box score in the bottom of the second. Chuck Norton came around to score from second base off a Beach knock, before Fleider scorched a home run to left field, scoring Beach and Curry II, who reached first base off an error from the infield. Heading into the third inning, the Fords held a substantial 10-0 lead.

Washington College tagged Mattison for two runs in the top of the third, after Zach Stolze drove in two from a single up the middle, to trim the Scarlet and Black lead down to 10-2.

The Fords tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fourth, as Flieder came home off a passed ball, before the Shoremen put up two more runs in the top of the fifth, highlighted by a Logan Yi solo shot.

Up 11-4 in the fifth, Haverford was able to push home two more insurance runs, off of a Norton RBI groundout, and an infield error that saw Harry Genth score the Fords' 13th run.

Up 13-4 in the bottom of the seventh, the Scarlet and Black once again went on the attack. With one out, Fleider walked and then advanced to second base on a passed ball in the very next at-bat. In that same at-bat Fleider stole third base, putting the pressure on Washington College's Zach Baldassarre. With Flieder at third, Pranav Rane singled through the right side, scoring Flieder, as Haverford picked up a 14-4 victory.

The game ended after Rane's hit due to the new 10-run rule, which states if a team is up by ten rules after six full innings in a Centennial Conference ball game, the game will end.

Next up for the Fords is another Centennial Conference game Tuesday, April 16, as Haverford College baseball travels to Allentown, Pa. to take on the Mules of Muhlenberg. First pitch for the Tuesday afternoon conference is slated for 3:30 p.m.
