INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Haverford College baseball rising senior Harry Genth has been named the 2024 NCAA Division III statistical champion for stolen bases per game.
Genth averaged a remarkable 1.25 stolen bases per game, easily outpacing the nation's second-best base swiper, Carlos Terc of the University of Valley Forge (1.11 per contest). Genth, who finished the season with 40 steals, is the first Haverford player to achieve an NCAA statistical championship since Tommy Bergjans '15 led the nation in strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings during his senior season.
On the bases, the Baltimore native stole four bags in three separate games this season (vs. NYU on March 3, at Muhlenberg on April 16, and at Swarthmore on April 26). As part of his four stolen-base performance against Swarthmore, Genth broke the Haverford single-season stolen base record, surpassing Louis DeRosa '11, who stole 34 bases in the 2011 season.
Genth was named the Centennial Conference Baseball Player of the Year in May, becoming the first Haverford player to earn the honor since 2011. A formidable presence both in the batter's box and on the base paths, the co-captain played a crucial role for the Fords in 2024.
Starting the year at second base, Genth transitioned to shortstop while leading the Fords in several key statistics: batting average (.339), on-base percentage (.510), slugging percentage (.670), home runs (10), runs scored (42), and stolen bases (40). In the field, the junior led the Fords in assists with 80, ranking seventh in the Centennial Conference. At the plate, he recorded 11 multi-hit games, including a season-high four hits against Dickinson on April 6.
