IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team (10-3) extended its winning streak to six games with a commanding 17-3 victory over Immaculata (3-12) on the road Friday afternoon.
Reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week Harry Genth delivered another standout performance, going 2-for-3 with four runs scored, including a three-run homer, while driving in three. Anthony Runfola also contributed significantly, finishing 2-for-3 with four runs scored, two RBI, and three walks.
Jack Wallis added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, while Jonny Flieder recorded three runs batted in on two hits. Catcher Chuck Norton went 3-for-5 with two runs batted in and first-year shortstop Jackson Sgro chipped in with a 2-for-4 effort, including an RBI double.
On the mound, David Bertz earned the win, pitching four innings in relief while allowing just one earned run on five hits and striking out two. Jack Couture got the start, tossing three solid innings and surrendering one run on four hits with three strikeouts. Thomas Ferguson closed out the game with two innings of relief, allowing an unearned run.
Haverford got on the board early, scoring single runs in the first two innings. In the first, Genth doubled with one out and came around to score on an RBI single from Wallis. In the second, Treese walked to lead off the inning, advanced to third on Norton's single, and scored on an RBI groundout from Flieder.
Immaculata threatened in the bottom of the second, loading the bases against Couture. However, the first-year pitcher escaped the jam thanks to a double-play liner off the bat of Maddox Stern.
The Fords extended their lead in the third inning. After Genth was hit by a pitch with one out, Runfola and Wallis delivered back-to-back RBI doubles, pushing the lead to 4-0. Matt Dahl followed with an RBI single to make it 5-0.
Genth strengthened his case for a second consecutive Player of the Week honor in the fourth inning, helping key a five-run frame. Flieder led off with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Sgro. After Rosman walked, Genth launched a towering three-run homer to left field—his seventh of the season—putting Haverford in full control at 8-1. Runfola followed with a double, and Norton later added an RBI single to extend the lead to 10-1.
The Fords' offense continued rolling in the fifth. With the bases loaded, Runfola drew a walk to force in a run. Dahl followed with a sacrifice fly before consecutive walks to Treese and Norton plated another. Flieder then ripped a single into right-center to bring home two more, and Sgro—who had led off the inning—returned to the plate and lined an RBI double into the gap for a 16-1 advantage. Mauro DeCillis capped the scoring in the sixth, crossing the plate on a passed ball for Haverford's 17th and final run.
Haverford now faces a quick turnaround, hosting No. 8 Salisbury for a nine-inning doubleheader at Kannerstein Field on Saturday. First pitch for game one is set for noon.
